We are very pleased to announce that we have acquired the Farines Sunyer brand, a company with over 100 years of history in La Bisbal d’Empordà. With this acquisition, we become the only flour producer in the Girona region, consolidating ourselves as leaders in the production of high-quality flours for artisan bakeries across Spain. Thanks to this agreement, we will produce four varieties of Farines Sunyer flours, thus expanding our product range for our customers.

This operation is part of our growth plan, which in 2023 resulted in a turnover close to 20 million euros. Through these new initiatives, our goal is to continue expanding our market and growing sustainably. As my father, Lluís Coromina Unzueta, director of Farinera Coromina, says: “We are very happy to add such an iconic and rooted brand in the Girona region as Farines Sunyer, with more than 13 generations of millers behind it. This agreement allows us to consolidate ourselves as leaders in the revolution of artisan bread made from high-quality flours.”

Farinera Coromina: 127 years of history and innovation

Farinera Coromina started its activity in 1897, and since then we have maintained a strong commitment to quality, health, and respect for the environment. Over all these years, we have always sought to innovate and evolve, and today, as the fifth generation of the Coromina family, I maintain this spirit of innovation that has led us to be recognized in various fields, such as the Technological Agro-Food Innovation Award we received in 2016.

We are very proud to have achieved the quality seal from the Associazione Verace Pizza Napoletana in 2023, which allows us to certify our flour for the most authentic pizzerias in the world. This is a recognition of the quality of our product and a guarantee for those pizzerias that want to offer an authentic Neapolitan pizza.

In addition to producing flour for bread, pastry, and pizzerias, we also offer technical advice to our customers through the Can Trull Workshop, where over 1,000 industry professionals have been able to train and improve their knowledge. This R&D space is essential for continuing to innovate and offering products of the highest quality.

International Expansion: A Promising Future

Our commitment to quality has led us to expand our presence internationally. This year, we participated in renowned fairs such as InterSICOP in Madrid and Alimentària in Barcelona, and we are ready to continue advancing. In November 2024, we will be present at the European Pizza and Pasta Show in London, an event that will bring together the best professionals in the industry and will be a great opportunity for us to strengthen our position in the European market. Furthermore, we have started our first export activities in the United Kingdom, aiming to continue growing in international markets.

Farines Sunyer: Tradition and Quality

The history of Farines Sunyer is a story of passion for flour that begins in the 17th century. The Sunyer family began their activity in the Garrotxa region, and later in La Bisbal d’Empordà, under the leadership of Isidre Sunyer, who grew the company by focusing on high-quality wheat and respecting the values of nature. In 2014, they received the Integrated Production certification, which guarantees the traceability of the wheat and flour production process.

Now, with this acquisition, we will continue the task of producing the highest quality flours, while keeping the tradition and know-how of Farines Sunyer alive. We are excited to join forces to continue growing and offering our customers the best possible products. With this step, we want to ensure that the production of high-quality artisan flours remains a reality in our region and beyond.

Thank you for trusting us!
